Affiliation by-law of the International Kodály Society
The board of Directors, as stipulated in Art. IV-2.9 of the Statutes, regulates with this by-law the conditions and procedures of affiliation by interested institutions with the International Kodály Society.
1. Affiliated National Institutional Members
Affiliation Requirements for ANIMs
1.1. Affiliated National Institutional Members are organizations that have similar objectives as the IKS and are recognised by the Board to have a significant nationwide impact.
1.2. For an organisation to be recognised under the ANIM category, the following requirements must be met:
a) To hold two public meetings, open to all interested shall be held to discuss the future working and plans of the Society as an Affiliated National Institutional Member of the IKS.
b) Every effort must be made to contact all stakeholders (individuals or groups) in the country who are actively engaged with the Kodály Concept, and to include them in the formation of the Society.
c) It is essential that any existing ALIM in the country be included in the consultation process. Should any interested party be unable to attend the public meetings, they must receive the minutes of said meetings and have the right to respond within 21 days of the initial meeting.
d) The Society shall send the minutes of the meetings to the IKS office and to all stakeholders in the country.
1.3. Only one organization per country can be recognized as Affiliated National Institutional Member.
1.4. Affiliated National Institutional Members are required to send an annual report on their activities to the Board of IKS no later than March 31 each year, to pay the yearly subscription and to encourage their members also to become members of IKS.
1.5. Affiliated National Institutional Members must be broadly supportive of the work of the IKS and remain committed to the goals and values of the IKS.
Benefits for the ANIMs
There are a range of benefits which accrue to the ANIMs under this new outline/criterion:
· recognition by the international Kodály community as an organisation of significant nation-wide impact;
· listing on the IKS website under the category of ANIM;
· the right to send a delegate, as a non-voting observer to the meetings of the Board of Directors of the IKS.
· the right to participate with full voting rights in an Advisory Council of presidents or their representatives of ANIMs, which meet at each International Kodály Symposium
· unlimited access to the Member Area of the IKS website;
· promotion of events and activities through the IKS newsletter, social media platforms, submission of articles for the Bulletin;
· notification of activities and events organized by the Society;
· reduced charge on International Kodály Society publications;
· support from the IKS office in Budapest for specific information related to historical and contemporary information on Kodály’s life and work, training programs internationally, networks and professional connections;
· participation in the work of the Fora of the Society.
Steps of the Procedure to become an ANIM
1. Please fill in the "Request for Affiliation as an ANIM".
· Include a copy of the Statutes of your organisation (with a translation in English if applicable).
· Enclose documentation showing the working of your Society (membership status, publications, report, forthcoming activities, website, etc.).
· Enclose a list of the officers of the current board (including contact details).
· Indicate proposed dates for the two required public meetings.
2. You will receive a confirmation of receipt of your Request for Affiliation from the Executive Office of the IKS and your request for Affiliation as an ANIM will be shared with the Board for consideration.
3. The first public meeting of the Society must occur within 6 months from the given commencement date. Minutes from this meeting must be sent to the IKS Office no later than 1 week after the meeting.
4. The second public meeting of the Society must occur within 12 months from the given commencement date. Minutes from this meeting must be sent to the IKS Office no later than 1 week after the meeting.
5. No later than 3 months after receipt of your request, you will receive a summary of responses, recommendations and a decision from the Board on your application.
If the decision is positive, the Agreement as an Affiliated National Institutional Member, signed by the representatives of the IKS board, will be sent to you for signing.
If the decision is negative, you will receive a report about the reasons why Affiliation cannot be granted. In the event of a negative response, you can opt for a revision procedure, allowing you to resubmit an application.
2. Affiliated Local Institutional Members
2.1. Affiliated Local Institutional Members are organizations that have similar objectives as the IKS and are recognised by the Board to have a significant impact, but do not represent any country nationwide.
2.2. The elected president/nominated contact person must be an active and financial individual member of the IKS.
2.3. For an organisation to be recognised under the ALIM category, the following criteria need to be considered:
a) Demonstrated commitment to and involvement in the IKS
b) Explicit application of the Kodály philosophy within the context
c) Contribution to music education at the national and international level
d) Provision of high-quality education and music performance training programs
e) High quality musical, educational and pedagogical outcomes
f) Sustained excellence over an extended period of time
g) Innovation and flexible adaptation within the specific context
2.4. Affiliated Local Institutional Members are required to send an annual report on their activities to the Board of IKS no later than March 31 each year, and to pay the yearly subscription.
2.5. Affiliated Local Institutional Members must be broadly supportive of the work of the IKS and remain committed to the goals and values of the IKS.
Affiliation Requirements for ALIMs
1. The group applying for local affiliation shall meet the requirements of the Statutes and by-laws of the IKS.
2. When applying to be recognised as an Affiliated Local Institutional Member, the organisation should provide evidence that they have addressed the Criteria as outlined above.

· listing on the IKS website under the category of ALIM;
· unlimited access to the Member Area of the IKS website;
· promotion of events and activities through the IKS newsletter, social media platforms, submission of articles for the Bulletin;
· notification of activities and events organized by the Society;

· Nominate the name of the key contact for your organisation and include contact details.
2. You will receive a confirmation of receipt of your Request for Affiliation from the Executive Office of the IKS, and your request for Affiliation as an ALIM will be shared with the Board for consideration.
3. No later than 3 months after receipt of your request, you will receive a summary of responses, recommendations and a decision from the Board on your application.
If the decision is positive, the Agreement as an Affiliated Local Institutional Member, signed by the representatives of the IKS board, will be sent to you for signing.
