Information about the next scholarship will be available in due time

The International Kodály Society announces its 2012-2013 academic year Study Scholarship Competition. The announcement is for postgraduate training at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music. The purpose of the scholarship program is to encourage and to support the study of the music and ideas of Zoltán Kodály in his native country, Hungary, as they apply to musical performance, pedagogy and composition.

Requirements and general information:

– Applicants must be paid up members of the International Kodály Society.

Three recommendations of persons who are currently teaching or are closely working together with the applicant should be attached to the application, or else the application is not valid.

Please attach a photograph.

All applications must be received by the IKS no later than May 31, 2011.

– There is no restriction as to the age of the applicant.

– The scholarships will be awarded for the 2012-2013 academic year beginning in mid-September. The amount of the scholarships is 1.000.000 HUF each, to be used toward the costs of tuition at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemét for two semesters. The remaining amount of the tuition fee, transportation and other expenses (e.g. board and lodging and cost for additional supplies) are to be borne by the recipients.

– In the selection procedure the level and intrinsic quality of acquired musicianship and the probability of the applicant's personal contribution to the music life of his/her country of origin, will play a major role. To gain thorough knowledge of these parameters, the IKS Board reserves itself the right, in addition to the three letters of recommendation, to ask for independent information about the applicant and/or to organize a personal interview.

– The scholarships are not transferable.

– Recipients will be announced the latest by October 15, 2011.

– Recipients have to contact the director of the Institute.

21. Personal Statement: Write an essay of 200-300 words which describes your present status of musicianship, not only in the sense of technical formation, but also in connection with your active participation in the music life of your country. It is important to provide the IKS Board with an as clear as possible picture of your desire to become a professional musician and of the path that has led to it till now. Describe your interest in the Kodály concept, the aim of your proposed study in Hungary, and your plans for the future. This statement should be written in English.

In order to help the IKS Board of Directors to make its selection for the 2012-2013 scholarship program, we would kindly ask you to give your objective assessment of the candidate in the following areas.
