Comments: Plano has a strong commitment to Kodály-inspired instruction for all elementary school students. Instruction happens twice a week with a trained music specialist.

Provo, Utah
Provo School District

11 elementary schools (Kindergarten through 6th Grade)

Grades involved: K-6 in three schools, K-3 in eight schools for the first year
The program is integrated.
Teachers involved in Kodály based teaching: Jerry L. Jaccard, Teresa Dickson, Rebecca McLaughlin, Patty Adams, Michelle Newbold, Holly Ence, Melissa Clayton, Emilee Knell, + more are being hired 2002-3
The program started in 1994 in one school, has gradually grown to encompass all schools in 2003.
Comments: The School Board recently mandated full Kodály instruction for all eleven elementary schools beginning in the school year 2002-2003. Hiring of qualified teachers from Brigham Young University teacher-education program is now under way.

There is monthly inservice training. This supervisory arrangement was put into place in June 2002.

Texas Education Agency oversees all school instruction and the guidelines allow are fully met by a comprehensive Kodály-based program.
