New Director in the Kodály Institute

 


Dr. László Norbert Nemes has recently been appointed to Director of the Kodály Institute of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. Besides his new position he continues his work as Acting Chair of the Music Pedagogy Department of the Academy and Associate Conductor of the Hungarian Radio Children’s Chorus.

Dr László Norbert Nemes graduated from the Liszt Academy with a degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting as a recepient of the scholarship of the Republic of Hungary. At the Academy he was a student of Peter Erdei, Director of the Kodály Institute for over thirty years. In 1999 he received a doctoral degree from the University of Alberta (Canada) where he was a student of Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff. As a student he took part in several international master courses held by Frieder Bernius, Michel Brewer, Eric Ericson, Simon Halsey, Robert Sund and Jon Washburn.

He started his teaching career as a music academy student at the Kodály Institute. For a year after he finished his studies, and between 1997 and 2001, he taught solfege, music theory, conducting and score reading at the Institute.

Since 1997 he has been the Associate Conductor of the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir. He has conducted the choir at numerous concerts in Hungary, made recordings and toured in many European countries and twice in Japan. In recognition of his artistic work with the choir, he received the Bartók-Pásztory Award in 2005.

As a music teacher and conductor, he has held workshops and seminars in the Philippines, Ireland, Canada, Poland, Portugal, and Singapore.

He is a member of the presidential board of the Friends of the Liszt Academy. He is a member of the International Kodály Society and the Lajos Bárdos Society. With his work done at the Ari S. Kupsus Salon Concert Society, he has helped several young musicians to achieve some of their professional goals.
